Visualizing Intertextuality

Developed by: Darcy Krasne

A set of tools to visualize the intensity and genealogical complexity of intertextual allusions in passages of Latin poetry. See the About page for a detailed explanation of this project.

Number of words of Latin poetry (or its antecedents) currently in the database:

If you would like to contribute to user-testing of the project, you may participate by filling out this form.

Down the road, I will also happily solicit volunteers to assist in entering intertexts into the database, but that is not currently possible.

This site has relocated to http://dkrasne.github.io/visualizing_intertextuality. Please take note of the new address, if you are using a different one.

Select passage to view

Currently there is a limited set of intertexts in the database. Choose Valerius Flaccus, Argonautica, Book 1, lines 1–4 or Book 2, lines 475–476 to see the display of some particularly rich intertextual passages. You can also view this diagram to see the complete network of intertexts currently in the database.

References

To view the references for all the passage’s intertexts, tick the following box; otherwise, only references for a selected word’s intertextual lineage will be displayed.

N.B. Every intertext in the database has at least one publication entered as a source. Many other, unlisted publications may record the same intertext, and there is no attempt to cite the first publication to record a given intertext.
